About us

Langen Capital is a London-based family office investing its own capital in private and alternative assets. We back established UK businesses and pursue European opportunities in alternative credit and corporate specialty finance.

We were entrepreneurs before we were investors. We founded businesses in the UK and scaled them internationally. Our team brings more than a decade of investment experience across sectors, including supporting the growth of private companies in professional services.

We partner with owners planning succession or the next stage of growth, and consider special situations where progress requires aligning different stakeholder interests and structuring a practical solution.

Our approach combines a long-term horizon, a focus on solutions, close collaboration and careful structuring. We invest without a fixed timetable to sell.

What we look for

We focus on business-to-business companies, typically with annual EBITDA up to £3 million. We partner with owners who want to:

We can invest through equity or debt, taking a minority or majority stake as appropriate. We also consider businesses needing a new financing partner.

How we work

We begin with a confidential conversation about your business and your plans, without obligation. You deal directly with the principal responsible for the investment decision.

The first conversation is about what your company does, the opportunities and challenges you see, and what you want for yourself and the business. No presentation is required, and your adviser is welcome to join.

We give a prompt initial assessment of how we could create value and the capital, experience and support we could provide. If there is a mutual fit, we agree confidentiality arrangements and review the relevant business information. We then make an offer setting out all key terms, including the investment structure, your continuing role and the next steps. If we are not the right partner, we say so promptly.

How we create value

Our approach is tailored to the business. We agree priorities with owners and management, building on the strengths of the company. Areas where we can contribute include:

The aim is practical progress, with clear responsibilities and results that can be measured.

Questions owners ask

Can I remain involved? Yes. A minority investment can support growth while you continue to lead. In a majority investment, we agree your continuing role or handover arrangements with you. Owners and management can remain invested as part of the agreed structure.

What happens to the team? We consider the team, customer relationships and operating culture as part of what makes the business valuable. We discuss the operating plan with you before agreeing the investment, including any proposed changes to roles, systems or ways of working.

How long do you invest for? We invest for the long term, without a fixed timetable to sell. Our decisions reflect the prospects of the business and the opportunities ahead.

What should I send first? A short email describing the business and what you would like to discuss is enough to start. Detailed financial information can follow once we have agreed confidentiality arrangements.

Experience

Our principals' experience includes:

This is experience gained across the principals' careers. We can discuss the background and our roles in an initial conversation.
